3G

3G is the third generation of mobile phone standard and technology, overriding 2G, and previous 4G. It is base on the International Telecommunication Union family of standard below the International Mobile Telecommunications programme, IMT-2000.

3G technologies allow network operators to offer users a wider range of more superior services while achieving greater network capacity through better spectral efficiency. Services contain wide-area wireless voice telephony, video calls, and broadband wireless data, all in a mobile situation. Additional features also include HSPA data transmission capability able to deliver speed up to 14.4Mbit/s on the downlink and 5.8Mbit/s on the uplink.

Unlike IEEE 802.11 networks, 3G networks are wide area cellular telephone networks which evolve to fit in high-speed internet access and video telephony. IEEE 802.11 networks are short range, high-bandwidth networks mainly developed for data.
